We are proud to launch our first project at the Rathinapuram Preschool in Killinochi, Sri Lanka. We will be helping the 30 children aged 3-5 years old who are currently attending, and the new students for years to come.
Killinochchi is a town located in the northern province of Sri Lanka. This town has a large Tamil population and has experienced many civil disasters from wars in the last few decades.
This pre-school serves 30 students aged 3-5 years old. Over many years, the government has neglected this school and the children have lost access to basic school supplies, functioning play equipment, and safe places to play and learn.
For this project, we have focused on rebuilding the play area and making it a safe space for the students to be in. There is a snake nest along one side of the building, which we will look to exterminate and fill so it cannot be recolonized. There is also a larger coconut tree in the middle of the area, that has roots that extend over the ground and make it uneven and unsafe to play on. We will be resurfacing the ground and repurposing the roots to make them a place for the children to sit on. The actual play structures at the school are very worn down and have not been properly maintained, so we are looking to replace these structures, like the swings and the see-saw. We also hope to be able to add in some new, easily maintainable structures made from materials like large tires and logs.
On top of the play area, we will be providing the school with some new toys for the students to use during play time, and provide basic necessities like cutlery, drawing supplies, and other school supplies.
The budget for this project at the moment is set at $7000, however as the project progresses and we have a better idea of the costs, it may go up or down.
If there are any extra funds left from fundraising for this project, they will be relocated for use in the next project.
For this project we are working with the teachers at the Sujith Montessori. They are helping us understand all of the different needs of the school.
We are also working with contractors local to the area, to come up with design plans for the renovations and buildings.
We put together this video so you can hear directly from the teachers at Sujith Montessori.

If more people know about us, we can help more people and complete more projects.
In order to reach our goals, we need donations. Whether you can give a lot or a little, everything helps, and we appreciate all contributions.
